GPs prescribing Mounjaro
You might hear in the news soon that weight loss injections can be prescribed by your GP from June.
It is not available for Kent and Medway patients via their GP yet.
Arrangements are being put in place to ensure compliance with the NICE guidelines and until this is in place it is not possible to prescribe Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) in primary care.
Please don’t book an appointment about Mounjaro until further updates are released.
The criteria to qualify will be very strict.
To avoid disappointment and wasted appointments, please check your eligibility below before booking an appointment to discuss Mounjaro:
Your BMI must be above 40. You can check your BMI on the NHS website if you know your height and weight. We will check your height and weight at your appointment, so it must be accurate.
As well as a BMI over 40, you must have a confirmed diagnosis of at least four out of the following five health conditions:
- Hypertension (high blood pressure) needing medication
- Sleep apnoea (confirmed at a sleep clinic)
- Type 2 diabetes
- Cardiovascular disease (heart disease, vascular disease or stroke)
- Hypercholesterolaemia (high cholesterol)
If you don’t meet all of these criteria, your GP will not be able to prescribe you Mounjaro for weight loss under the current guidelines.
